Samuel Bodin’s “Cobweb” weaves a disconcerting tale of Peter, a young boy troubled by strange noises and a haunting voice in his bedroom wall. As Peter’s parents grow frustrated with his behavior, the voice becomes a curious presence, but its true nature remains a mystery. While the film establishes an eerie atmosphere with Philip Lozano’s cinematography, it falls short of becoming a truly terrifying horror experience. Jump scares lack impact, and the plot twists feel somewhat predictable. Several subplots, such as the mystery of a missing trick-or-treater and the presence of bullies, are introduced but ultimately feel underdeveloped and unresolved. The cast’s commendable performances, notably Woody Norman’s portrayal of Peter, add some depth, but “Cobweb” fails to fully deliver on its potential, leaving audiences wanting more.
