If you’re a fan of werewolf movies, you might have certain expectations when you hear about Wolf Garden. Marketed as a hybrid of “An American Werewolf in London” and “Vertigo,” this film takes a different approach. Instead of relying on flashy special effects, it opts for a slow-burn psychological thriller. Writer/director Wayne David steps into the lead role as William, a man whose countryside vacation with his girlfriend Chantelle goes horribly wrong. The narrative jumps back and forth between the past, present, nightmares, and questions of reality, which can be disorienting. While some viewers may appreciate the mind-bending nature and the anticipated ending, I found it difficult to become invested in the uninteresting characters and the film’s overall lackluster execution.
